RAILWAY EXCURSION PROPOSED

CHRISTCHIRH TO HOKITIKA

Advice has been received oi a proposed picnic railway excursion from Christchurch to Grcymouth and Hokitika. The date suggested is Saturday. .March 20th. The draft timetable is to leave Christchurch at 7.25 a.in., arrive Groymniith at 1 p.m. and Hokitika 2 p.m. The train would depart cii return from Hokitika at 0.15 p.m. mid Grcymouth at 7.15 p.m. reaching Christchurch shortly after midnight. Tho return fares would he to Grcymouth. 9s (id; to Hokitika. 11s 2d. The West Coasters’ Association meets at Christchurch to-morrow night to decide in regard to the guarantee asked, namely 401) passengers.

Enquiry is being made from Hokitika as to the accommodation which could lie provided for local visitors by the various sporting bodies. Advice has been sent that at least five tennis courts will he available; that bowling will he possible for five or six links; that Cass (Square would lie available for cycling, as well as a general picnic ground, w ith hot- water and other conveniences ready at hand; that either cricket or football matches could be arranged for: that miniature rifle or gun club shooting could be arranged for with team matches, that the swimming luiilis would l:e available, that motoring parties to the Rimu dredge and toms of the mining townships, or to Lake Kanieri would he possible at special fares; and that gouerallv the citizens of Hokitika would do all in their power to make the stay of the visitors as pleasant and as hospitable
