LATE LOCALS.

Owing to the Swimming Carnival the annual meeting of the Miniature IJilie Club called for this evening lias been postponed until Thursday next at 7.30 p.ni.

For many months past Far South residents have been requesting the Westland Hospital Board to provide ;*.

hand stretcher with a centre wheel, for the purpose of conveying urgent eases as far as where wheel or motor traffic is available, to enable the patients in urgent need of medical or surgical attention to be brought in. After many months of investigation and the consideration of suggestions, the Board recently let a tender for the erection of a one-wheeled stretcher. This has now been completed bv Messrs \\ ild and Bassett, and judging from its appearance it should serve the purpose and be the means of giving more comfort to the patient, and reducing the toil of labour on the stretcher hearers. The article now completed is lightly made with an under-structure of steel which carries a motor-cycle wheel in the centre, which is easily lowered or otherwise to meet the necessity for short or tall earners. Light, yet strong, it is hoped that the stretcher will giyc satisfaction if at any time the necessity for the long overland trek arises. The stretcher will he sent to Okuru. where it will he stored in readiness for any unforeseen occurrence. Messrs Wild and Bassett have made an excellent article, which it is hoped will satisfy Southern residents who have been so insistent for some improvement in the existing conditions, when a stretcher case is involved, necessitating the carrying of the patient over many miles of rough hush track. The wheel in the centre it is expected will assist to a very large extent in relieving the trying efforts of ihe carriers of the past.
