FLOODS CONTINUE. BRISBANE, Feh. It. The. Hoods continue unabated in Northern Queensland. Seventeen are known to have perished and others are missing.
It is expected .that the. death roll will lie largely increased. The Acting Premier received a report that at least 150,000 tons of the estimated crop of 000,000 tons of sugar eano was destroyed. The Postmaster at Ingham says that several houses have been, washed bodily away. 111 one of these, three men were carried, and it was three days before they were rescued. The water in the main street ol Ingham is six feet deep. The damage there is not less than one hundred thousand sterling. A food shortage is feared, and supplies are being rationed. The main streets of Cairns arc several feet under water. Tremendous seas are running, and there are great quantities of timber afloat for miles out to sea.
FLOOD DAMAGE. (Received this day at 10.15 a.m.l BRISBANE, Feh. 15. Although the floodwaters are subsiding in most of the centres, enormous areas of banana and sugar cane crops arc under water, but all danger is now passed. Word has been received that a party of eleven, including two women, are marooned on Green Island, near Cairns. A party of aboriginals brought the news and later rowed hack to the Island with provisions. The steamer Timisfnil is safe. It is impossible yet to estimate the damage. A late report from Cairns states heavy rain is again falling, and it is feared will inflict further damage and hardships in Innisfail, Tally and adjacent districts. •DEATH ROLL INCREASES. BRISBANE, February 15. As communications with the flood stricken areas is restored, the death rolls continue to mount. It is now estimated that thirty-nine lives were lost, besides many missing. A message from Ingham states nine bodies were recovered there, but seven others have not been located. Tt is possible others are missing. The flood waters are now receding and the position is calmer. Residents of Ingham are well provided for. It is expected that within the next two days communication will be restored to Halifax, Macnade and Lucinda. Tt is understood that residents of these centres are safe.
Communication is now restored with Beamerside, Cardwell, Tally nntl Inntsfiiil. Xo loss oI life occurred at any of these places, though Tally was short of fond and the peope were rationed. Efforts are being made to rescue twenty people marooned at a store at Euramon. THE LIST DE DEAD. The list of the dead at Ingham incldes.—Albert llusso. Maria Russo, Tateia Russo. Annie lt.osso. Rurmelo Russo, Rarmelo Russo. Domenico Sofia Russo, Hila Sofia. Rosa Rognnese, a Japanese, Frank Batalin. Edgar Stanley, Von Aplirt. The latter was superintendent of the ambulance and was drowned during rescue work. McMillan, Giovanni Lugi. Lily Cassidy, six Kanakas and aboriginals.
