GALA DAY, NEXT WEEK
'There will be a monster gala oil Cass Square next, Wednesday in aid of All Saints’ Church .Memorial Fund. Sport, Inu and entertainment will he provided from 1.30 o’clock onwards. There will bo stalls for the tide of goods and clothing conducted by the ladies of I lie Sewing Giuhl. Mrs King and assistants will conduct the tea rooms, Mrs Veaic and Mrs Ben jkiinin will be in charge of the ico cream and sweets stall. There "ill be a. display of flowers and pot plants under the direction ot All's 14. AL C'nulson and others, "bile the produce, fruit and jumble stall "ill be in charge of Ali.ss Thorn and Alls J. IS. Ward. Games in regard to golf will be cunducted by Air \\ . Staveley. and bowls bv Air H. A .Thompson. Hoop-la and other features will be directed by Mr l’alnier. The decorative events will bo conducted by Aliss Thompson with whom entries may now 'be left for decorated sunshade, child’s bicycle, pram, lady or gent’s bike, child’s cart, and decorated motor ear driven by lady 'or gentleman. There is a valuable prize for the later to which Alrq W. Diodrichs (Kokntahi) is making a .substantial competition. The dancing on the green will be a very pretty spectacle. This will be managed by Airs Northcroft who has been training some forty children for some time. The girls will all be gaily dressed in Kate Greenaway costumes. and will dance the .Maypole and crown Gwyeime Appleton as the Queen of the Alay. In addition Sir Roger de Coverlov will be danced to the merry strains of the old time, while the Haymakers will also be a merry ami bright country cl»ince. Boys sports will be conducted by Air R. Lynn in a roped off enclosure. These "ill include foot racing, obstacle race, sack race, pillow fight, wrestling and other novelties.
The girls events will he in charge of Alisses Nightingale and Holliday and include races and games. with sports and pastimes by the Girl Guides under Afesdames Perry and AVllliams.
The baby competition for the titles of Aliss Westland and Al aster Westland, for babies under 20 months of age is sure to 'be lan attractive event. Entries are being received from the country as well as the town so the competition should be keen.
There will he a musical bicycle ride and other items on wheels directed by Mr Best, fancy costume competition directed by Mrs Staveley, and a Gipsy tent presided over by Mrs Howard. Admission to the Square will he one •shilling. The Bind is kindly attending and will add to the pleasure of the afternoon.
At night at the Soldiers’ Hall there will he a grand entertainment, with an elocutionary competition and spelling bee—something quite novel and entertaining. Xext Wednesday should indeed he a real gala day.
