THE COAST ROAD
At the last meeting of the Executive of the Canterbury Progress League, it was decided unanimously to support the representations being made to the Government by the West Coast local bodies with regard to the completion of the Greymouth-Westport coastal road. With that object a deputation was appointed to wait on Ihc ActingPrime Minister, the Hon. Mr Downic Stewart, on his return from Dunedin. Mr H. Holland, M.P., undertook to make the necessary appointment, and arrange for the introduction of the deputation. He has received a reply from Mr Downic Stewart, advising that lie has been in communication with the Ministers for Public Works anti Labour, with reference lo the feasibility of getting the work started, ami the matter is under consideration in Wellington. He will receive the deputation this evening at the Christchurch railway station, on the arrival of the second express from Dunedin. In connection with tl.. unemployed difficulty on the Coast the Chairman of the Greymouth Chamber of Commerce (.Mr J. McLean), received the following telegram from the Minister of Mines (lion. 0. J. Anderson): —“ In reply to your wire. Public Works Department has'already authorised District Engineer to place 2f> to BO men right away on tiio Greymouth-Westport road. Question of making start on big scale on Bluff section will be decided hv Afinistcr of Public Works on his return to Wellington.”
