GALA DAY NEXT WEDNESDAY.

A meeting of the Committee in connection with preparations for gala, day was held at the County Chambers last evening when there was a willing band of lady and gentlemen workers present. Air Evans presided. Before dealing with the business of the evening, Air B. Ward, treasurer of the Alemorial Fund reported £592 12s fid had been collected since Die present effort was taken in band. The not amount in hand at date was £3398, leaving about another £OOO to be tound to enable the building operations to bo commenced. Of the hitter sum some £3OO was definitely promised within the year.

Satisfaction was expressed tit the steady growth of the fund, and Lite encouragement it gave to proceed with the work which would result in a very fine edifice being erected in the town as a worthy memorial and an ornament to the place.

The Committee then considered numerous details for the gala on Cass Square. A plan of the ground and the allocation of the fixtures was agreed to. Touts and stalls will he provided for the various dispays. A portion of the ground will he roped off for the sports, guides parade, and Alaypole and country dances. The assistance of the hand is to he sought. Judges for various competitive events were decided upon, including the decorative events, the ha by show and other matters. Tt was decided to leave it optional whether the decorated motor cars were driven hv ladies or not. Tt was indicated also that ears might be decorated with paper, (lowers, or any other artistic aid.

The ladies with the stalls arranged for locations, and there will he a working boo on Tuesday evening and again on AVednesday morning.

A suggestion was made that as so many of the scholars will be taking part in the displays, arrangements might be made to dismiss the classes as early as possible in (be afternoon. Air Jarman reported in regard to special prizes. Tt was suggested the Kokatalii and Koiterangi schools desired to participate in. the day’s doings as there had been no holiday for tbe picnic. It was resolved to extend an invitation. Tt was resolved to ask the Rev. Knowles Smith to judge the elocutionary work in the evening. Air Partridge will be in. charge of the spelling bee.

Various details were agreed upon and tbe meeting adjourned at 8.20 p.tn.
