ADELAIDE MURDER.
ADELAIDE, Feb. 7. A man walked into a jeweller’s shop and said that he was acting on behalf of a mail who was laying ill at a hotel. He made inquries regarding jewellery. Tho manager of the shop, Mr John Robert Hindmarsh, took three single diamond rings of a value of sixty pounds sterling each, and motored to the hotel: He went to a certain room in the morning. A maid opened the door at 9.30. Sho announced that breakfast as ready. She observed a man in bed, apparently asleep, but did not wake him. Two hours later, on going to the room, sho saw tho man in tho same position. The police were then called to No 1, when it was found that the man in the bed was dead, and he proved to bo Mr Hindmarsh. The police are of the opinion that he was enticed to the room, where he was bound and gagged, but his assailants took too long over the work, and Hindmarsh was suffocated. A young man is being detained iu connection with the matter. CHILD ENDOWMENT. SYDNEY, Feb. 7. The Government’s Child Endowment Bill is to bo introduced in the Assembly to-morrow. A proposal that the benefits of the scheme should be retrospective- to the first of January was defeated by tho Caucus. WOOL MARKET. SYDNEY, Feb. 7. At the wool sales to-day under strong competition, from all sections of the trade, the market ruled firm at last week’s rates. All descriptions participated in the demand,, with a special demand from Germany for skirtings. Comebacks and crossbreds were in keen request at full late rates. Greasy merino sold to 35£d.
