WESTLAND PROGRESS LEAGUE.
MONTHLY MEETING. A meeting of the Committee of the League was held at the County Chambers at 7.40 o’clock last evening. Present: Messrs T. W. Duff (President), Messrs 11. T. Parry, J. C. Macfarlane, A. G. Pilkington, D. J. Evans, W. Jeffries, A. Craw, A\ . D. Alack ay, J. AY. Alorris, A. Richards.
The minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed and the outward correspondence was approved. I NAVA ED CORRESPONDENCE.
From Marlborough Progress League forwarding copy of minutes. —Received. From Southland League, copy of mi nu tes. —Received.
From Canterbury League, copy of minutes.—Received.
From same supplying particulars of proposed visit of American tourists to tbe South Island, and stating any atention would be appreciated.—Received . -■* From Greymouth Borough Council asking the League to appoint a delegate to interview the Prime Minister on his return in reference to the timber industry.—Received and held over to await date of meeting.
From Chamber of Commerce, Groymouth, with regard to the appointment of Railway Advisory Boards in the chief centres, and suggesting the appointment- of a League representative to a central Const Committee at Greynioutli.—Received. The Chairman suggested representation on the Canterbury Advisory Committee. After discussion it was decided to defer consideration. for a month, the President to confer with the Mayor of Hokitika in regard to a local committee with a representative on the Advisory Board.
From Eric James with reference to providing horses for the South A\ r est-Innd-Haast Pass trip.—Received; to he considered at tho time of the Alinister’s trip. GENERAL. AVith regard to the continuous telephone service, the Hon Secretary reported ATr Mclntosh had interviewed the Postmaster, and it was suggested a subsidy be. offered to make up the required revenue to secure what was desired. Tt was decided to wait on the Telegraph Officials again and further discuss the matter. The President, Messrs McTntosh, Evans and Morris were appointed a deputation to attend to the matter. Mr Jeffrie referred to the completion of the Coast road, and said ho had discussed the matter with the Rubier County Chairman last month, and a deputation was mooted to meet the Afinister of Public AVorks at "Westport on the matter. Tho meeting favored tho proposal and a motion was carried accordingly. Tt was resolved to ask the Railway" Department to provide seating accommodation for passengers on the goods train running between Hokitika and Greynioutli. The President remarked that flic annual meeting of the League would he held in April, and would be glad to welcome new members. The meeting concluded at 8.30.
