TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 8. 1927. OVERSEER’S MONTHLY REPORT. I have tho honour to report upon tho progress ol work during the month of January. NORTHERN RIDING. Kumara to Kapitea. This work is progressing steadily towards completion. Tho constructed formation and concrete culverts are being completed in a satisfactory manner. MAINTENANCE. The Roadman attended to clearing of encroaching gorse and blackberry from Aruhura Valley, Humphreys and One Mile Roads. Watertables were cleared on Blue Spur, Arahura Roads, and motor worn holes repaired on One Milo and Arahura Valley Roads. A concrete pipe culvert was constructed on Spencer Road, and subsidence repaired on Christchurch Road. CENTRAL RIDING. Lake Kanieri Road 'Widening. The Contractors completed both sections of widening in a fairly satisfactory manner, all work being completed by tho 18th of tho month. Lower Kokatahi Road Drainage. The balance of tho grant was exhausted in constructing 16 chains of drain nbovo Lang’s outlet drain. Kokatahi Bridge Protection. This work was in hand on January 29th, the lorry being employed in carting material for fascino and wire net work, which is being completed by day labour.
MAINTENANCE. The Roadman attended to grading and repairs to Municipal, Upper Municipal. and Upper Kokatahi, Doughboy Roads, repairs to Koiterangi and Lake Kanieri Roads. The road drain was cleared an cleaned on the southern side of Municipal Road, below A. Wall’s residence; defective decking was renewed on Duck Creek Bridges No. 2 and No. 3 and on Kokatahi River Bridge. Two defective culverts were renewed with concrete pipes on Municipal Road, and one eight inch diameter concrete pipe drain constructed on Lower Kokatahi Road below White Creek Bridge. Watertables were cleaned on Lake Kanieri and Kokatahi Roads, and dangerous overhanging trees removed from Dorothy Falls Road. Tho bye track between R imu Hill and the Diggers Sawmill was cleared and roughly repaired, and a ford crossing constricted over Moils Rivulet Crock, and repairs effected to a culvert on Seddon’s Terraco Road. Tho inlet to the old drain was partly cleared to allow stagnant water which was creating a nuisance, during warm weather behind Kanieri township to discharge into the outlet to Kanier: River. Tho motor truck was kept huislv employed on every working day, grading ami repairing roads ill the Kokatahi district, carting gravel for approach to skids at White Road; timber for bridge repairs in tho Northern Riding concrete pipes for renewals of defective culverts in the Central Riding, ami material for Kokatahi Bridge Protection. SOUTHERN RIDING. Petersen Road Extension. This work is almost completed, excepting tho removal of felled timber on tho line of clearing, and a few small depressions remaining on the surface formation. Tho surface throughout is hard carrying loaded vehicles without inconvenience. Tho road line between the terminus of work and the river reserve is being cleared by a settler at his own expense. Cowhide Creek Bridge. The bridge aiul approaches were completed on January 27th a good job resulting throughout. The County lorry lias been continually employed driving piles and carting stone for net building and material for forming and metalling while this work was in progress. Cameron’s Greek Bridge, Main Highway. The County lorry was employed on January 29th carting tho pile driving gear from Cowhide Creek Bridge to the site of this bridge, to ho in readiness for driving the piles as soon as the necessary timber is delivered. MAINTENANCE. ..Roadman Whitiskie was employed on Cowhide Creek Bridge and approaches until completion; attention was also given to a defective culvert on La Fontaine Road; also to approach to bridges on Wanganui Flat Road. Roadman Nolan attended to repairs on Richardson Road filling in several washouts caused by the overflow of the Waitangi River; also to erection of hand railing on two foot, bridges at Watarou Flat Road, and clearing and cleaning water tables on Okarito Road.
