- [Australian & N.Z. Cable Association.] EVIDENCES OF CAXNAIBALIS.M. SYDNEY, February 5. A wireless from Bulolo states that the expedition investigating the murders of native carriers by Kanakas, on Bulolo river, found evidences of cannibalism on a large scale in the native villages. Apparently the native carriers who were reported as deserters during the last twelve months were murdered and eaten.
The expedition encountered severe opposition and was several times ambushed and was compelled to lire in self defence, wounding a number of Kanakas.

'Hie Trades Hall proceeded to receive a deputation from the Women W orkers Organisation in connection witli granting relief to distressed building trade workers and families. The Premier declined to meet the deputation, hut agreed to meet the Disputes Committee. The Committee, however, declined the Premier’s invitation and carried a resolution calling on the Women Workers’ Organisation to insist on interviewing the Premier and to present themselves in a body at tho Premier’s office. AN EXPLANATION. • MELBOURNE, Feb. 8. Referring to the rebuke offered him by the Canadian Prime Minister mentioned in the cables yesterday, Mr Bruce said: “I never at any time mado any suggestion regarding what Canada ought to do in the matter of national defence.” .
