At 1 p.m. on Sunday Eric John Barlow, a prisoner at the Panama Prison. Christchurch, was found dead in his cell. Death was caused by hanging, a strip torn off his blanket being used. Barlow was seen to be all right at noon and had given no cause for alarm. He was sentenced in December of last rear. He was twenty-three years of age.

The Railway Department is about to erect ten workmen’s dwellings on the Railway Reserve at Karoro. The dwellings will be of the standard Xo 2 class B cottage, each of five rooms, with washhouse. bathroom, scullery and outhouse, and will be electrically lit. ’1 lie style of building will permit of the erection of an extra bedroom, should it be required later. Besides meeting the housing problem of railway servants, the cottages will make a welcome addition to Karoro residential area.
