A MOTORIST'S TRIAL. AUCKLAND, Feb. 7. The trial of John James O’Hanlon, on tho charge of negligently driving a motor-car, thereby causing the death of Bernard Housiana, a passenger in the car, took place at tho Supreme Court to-day. Evidence was given that accused collided with a motor-bus, the tail-light of which was on the left hand side, instead of the right hand side, and that tho bus was. standing a considerable distance out from the kerb. Thcro was no suggestion that accused was driving recklessly or was drunk. Tho jury returned tho following verdict.—“ln tho opinion of the jury accused is guilty of negligence in a degree in colliding with tho bus, hut the accident was in their opinion contributed to by tho fact thnj; tho tail-light was on the left side of tho bus and that tlio driver of tho bus also contributed by pulling up five, feet from the kerb. Tho jury strongly recommended accused to the leniency of tho Court, and added a rider that tho authorities be urged to make it compulsory for _ all rear lights to ho placed on the right side of vehicles. Sentence was postponed until to-morrow, Justice Herdman remarking that accused would not have to go to prison. }f
