ARCTIC EXPLORATIONS. NEW YORK, February 5. Captain Wilkins left Detroit to-jlay on a second attempt to explore the Arctic areas, expecting to reach Fairbanks on February 22nd. Ho will have three areoplanes and be prepared for an expedition of a few weeks of flights, or two or three years afoot on the Polar ice. NAVAL ADVICE. OTTAWA, Feb. 3. Addressing the University students at Toronto, the Premier, Mr MacKenzie King, referred to the Canadian speeches of Mr Bruce in dealing with the Dominions contribution to defence. He said: “I say, as the Prime Minister of Canada, that he has made my task a much more difficult one than it would otherwise have been. I think that tho Canadian people can much more easily and satisfactorily decide their own matters without the advice of visitors from other countries.’’ THE CHAMPION SCULLER. NEW YORK. Feb. 5. A Los Angeles message states: Mr E. C. Uhr. tho associate of Major Goodsell, the sculler from Australia, has received an unsigned letter from Varquis, Mexico, alleging that Goodsell has been kidnapped, and asking for fife thousand dollars to procure his release. It is believed that Goodsell crossed the Mexican frontier in an effort to gain permanent residence in the United Stales, his six months visit period having expired.
