The death is reported from Ross of Mrs Grace Jones, wife of Frederick Jones, of Simpson Street, Ross. The funeral will take place at Ross tomorrow afternoon.
The death occurred at the Westland Hospital yesterday of Mrs Jus. Tainui. of Araliura. She was the daughter of the late Robert Finely, and a, native of Araliura, and leaves a. family of four children, also a sister and two brothers.

Four men were bathing in lair'y deep water at New Brighton on Friday afternoon, when one of them noticed a swirl in the \\;ater, and a dark object making for the group. Ho immediately shouted that there was a shark coming, and the men heat a hasty retreat to the beach where a few exceedingly excited people had gathered. This is by no means the first shark seen this season at the beach, and several people say that they have seen sharks swimming outside the breakers.

The Grey River Argus says that at the S.M. Court on Saturday, before Mr A. Naylor, J.P., Charles Herbert Hughes, was charged with drunkenness on Mawhera Quay and with refusing to quite the premises of the Albion Hotel when ordered to do so by a servant of tho licensee. Sergt. Smythe stated that Hughes had been hanging about Greymouth since December 1.3, drinking and begging. In fact, lie was going the right way to be charged with vagrancy .Meanwhile he had three days to serve in gaol unless he paid 13s on a warrant from Westport. Defendantsaid lie had been sick, as the result of a mine accident. Ho would start again at tho Blackball mine as soon as lie got a, chance. Finally, Mr Naylor paid 13s for Hughes on a warrant from Westport and told him to go to work at Blackball. Hughes was released on his own recognisances until to-day when the charge against him of refusing to quit licensed premises will be dealt with bv the Magistrate. .Meantime his absence from the local gaol is due to the generosity of the J.P.
