MELBOURNE’S PERFECT GIRL
VISIT TO NEW ZEALAND,
Recently 3LO, the Melbourne broadcasting station, instituted a searcii for “tho perfect i’l .*’ They claim to have found her in Alf-s Kilen Elza Harper, and she hails from the little town of Helgrave, near Melbourne. The conditions of the contest provided that "the 3LO girl” must possess other attributes than mere beauty of fate and figure. flavine found their beauty, they insisted that her disposition match her face: that she must possess intellect; must, he somethin" ol a domestic treasure, able to cook, sweep and sew. manage a house, and. on the toji of all this, be able to drop her apron— if such things are worn nowadays—and saunter to the piano to entertain her guests with Debussy, for instance. Surely a perfect girl: From a host of entrants .Miss Harper was the one chosen as most really fidtilling the conditions. In addition, she is a tennis player, wields no mean mallet at croquet, and plays baseball "like an American.” She lias taken course.*
in domestic science, and is an accomplished dancer. She was educated at the -Methodist, Ladies’ College, of which the well-known Dr Fitchett is prineipal. The prize offered the winner of this interesting contest was a six weeks’ tour through New Zealand, plus a cash prize of CIOO to spend during the trip, 'a addition to this, the cash value of Hie presents she received is estimated at t‘looo.
.Miss Harper, accompanied by Art's Dorothy Dunekley, who will act as chaperon during the tour of the Dominion, arrived at Bluff by the Aloernki, from whence they will commence their tour of the Dominion.
To-night Miss Harper reaches Dunedin and a special broadcasting session will he held from Bto 9, when the young lady will speak; also Mr .T. AT. Prentice who is likewise at Dunedin, ''.iris-; Harper is to be met by Aliss New Zealand at Dunedin this afternoon and join a public reception at the sports ground, and to-morrow will lie the guest of the Telephone girls at Ta'icri Beach picnic.
