it N.Z. Cable Association BURDHIST CONORESS. CONDON. Jan. 21. The first supreme convocation of Buddhists opened at Moscow drafting legislation for the promotion of Buddhism in Russia. Delegates included tourists, Kalmucks and others are expected from Mongolia and Thibet. The Congress aims at the creation of a cadre of Buddhist priests willing to follow Moscow directions. The most prominent figure is Doijiev, who was elected President. In an opening address he pointed out the necessity for the restoration of the ancient form of pure Buddhism, adaptable to the Soviet’s requirements. OHARTERTNO TRANSPORTS. TDK 10. Jan. 28. The press reports state London interests are chartering five Japanese steamers now in Indian waters, for use ns transports, the first being deliverable to charterers early in February, either at Calcutta or Singapore. SOUTH AUSTRALIAN LOAN. LONDON. Jan. 28. The South Australian loan was underwritten for the amount as cabled, five per cent at ninety-eight. AMERICAN TRADE. WASHINGTON, Jan. 28. The Deoartmcnt of Commerce has announced the United States exports for 1920 totalled 4.808.405 thousand dollars, about one hundred millions under 1925 total. The imports totalled 4.430.890 thousand dollars, nil increase of two hundred millions over 1925. making a favourable trade balance for J22G of 337.575 thousand dollars.
