The passage of the “Renown” through the Panama Canal was uneventful. After leaving the Gatlin Lock, the ship passed through the other locks, and was navigated across the Gatun Lake expeditiously by a pilot. On her arrival in Balboa, the ships in the harbour were dressed, and two American .submarines were manned. The whole community apparently turned out to welcome the Renown, which, as she drew near the wharf whore she as to he moored, broke out her Hags, dressed ship and fired a salute. The official call on the Duke of York was made by the President of the Panama Republic, the members of his Cabinet, the British Aliuister, and other dignatnries, who were received by a full guard, the Renown’s band playing the Panama National Anthem. The evening of an arduous day was spent by the Duke and Duchess of York and the members of their staff as guests at a dinner in the British Legation, after which they attended a reception at which eight hundred guests were present. ROYAL TOUR. PAX AAT A, January 20. The Yorks were received enthusiastically at Cristobal yesterday. They came to Panama by train. PAXAAfA. January 20. The Renown anchored at Balboa. She will continue her journey into the Pacific to-morrow. The travellers were present at a reception by British at { Balboa last night.
