Two members of the Sisters of Nazareth arrived in Hokitika last evening to make their annual appeal to citizens of the town and residents ol surrounding districts, and South Westland. on behalf of the work they are carrying on in Christchurch. 'I he Sisters visit Kokntahi, Koiterangi and Arahura this week, and proceed on Tuesday next to Wniho and AYeheka. On the return journey from the south they will visit Watnroa, Hnri Hari and other settlements. The work which the Sisters are engaged is too wellknown to need description. It is truly catholic in its scope, embracing each stage of life. In Nazareth House, Brougham St.. Sydenham, aged men and women have found a homo in their declining years. A very large number have availed themselves of the comfort it affords since ils establishment over 20 years ago. In the Home are received the aged of all denominations. On the same grounds is the flourishing school for girls wherein they are equipped for successful careers in life. Many throughout New Zealand have passed through the school and reflect the greatest credit on it. remaining deeply attached to it. The most recent work undertaken by the Sisters is St. Joseph's Home for hoys on a splendid property acquired some six years ago at Middleton, close to the Show Grounds at Addington. The property formerly belonged to Sir John Hall whose name will he ever associated with the early history of Canterbury' ai\d AAcstland. Itesidents of Hokitika and district would he well repaid by a visit to the above institutions, and they would receive a cordial welcome from the Sisters. The late Bishop Grimes, who invited the Sisters to come to New Zealand from their far-famed House at Hammersmith. London, used to say that he was moved to do so first by sympathy for the miners of the West Coast who had borne the heat and burden of the day. The Sisters gratefully recall , the help they have always received from "Westlnnders and it is hoped that their present visit will result in generous assistance which will lighten the heavy harden this work im]>oses on tlfem.
