INFLUENZA

The Minister of Health has received a cablegram from the High Commissioner, stating that the latest influenza figures show an increase in the number of deaths in England. In 105 great towns, including London. the deaths numbered 326 for the week ending January loth. The deaths in the County of London were 137. and in Creator London 233. The notifications of pneumonia totalled 1.867, showing a slight decrease. So far London is chiefly affected. The type of the disease is mild. Complications are rare, and are confined principally to children and the aged. On the Continent tho position is practical! v unchanged. Influenza is prevalent' in Fiimce and Switzerland, where it is decreasing, but Germany reports an increase in her influenza cases, but the disease is generally of a mild type. f Although Europo genevallv is affected. the influenza is not prevalent either in Australia or m the lush Free State.
