Iho superintendent of manual and technical training was asked to draft a letter to the Department, pointing out the regrettable fact that the interest m technical classes in country districts was decreasing, as the present regulations did not give sufficient encouaigeinent to warrant carrving on the classes. Iho hoard considered that the advantages of technical education should not be limited to the fortunate youth living nciir the large towns, ' but should Ik> extended to country districts " hote the necessity for acquiring expoit technical skill was often more apparent in the country than it is in the town. ... A . tel . c 'Srain was received from the i avlorville School Committee raiding as follows; Owing to the sanitary and dilapidated condition of the Tavlbrville School, parents '.ire sending their chi'.dren to other schools. At. the committee’s meeting the following resolution was carried unanimously: “If repairs to the school are not in hand h.v February Ist, the committee would resign.”

Air Bignell W.is requested to interview the committee and explain the position.

. A letter was received from the Evans Creek School Committee reminding the Board of its promise, made in July, to review the position regarding the establishment of a permanent school. It was resolved that the matter be referred to Alessrs Bignell and Wild for a report. The Attendance Officer (Air ATackay) reported having visited seven schools, interviewed nine parents, notified thirteen, and thken court proceedings in two instancs. The report was adopted. ATr Johnston’s report for December and January stated: The follow in" schools were visited:—Ross, Alikonui. M Harihari. Wataroa, Wniho Gorge, Ruatapu, Woodstock. Wallis Siding, Rotomanu. Totara Flat. Ahainja and Camerons. The weather during the month has been much, better with a noticeable improvement in growth. As far as I can judge, the forest tree seeds are doing much, better than 4ast year. All the schools visited give evidence of careful work having been done. Most of them make quite a creditable showing. The Camerons School Committee has erected a new fence round the nirden plot, and would he quite willing to carry out the work of painting it, if the Board would supply the paint. Should the Board see fit to do this, I should be pleased to seq the paint delivered from the workshops here.
