WELLINGTON, January 24

Waterson, of 18 Cardcll St., Wellington, was caught in a treacherous undertow while bathing at Tihoi Bay yesterday afternoon and was eartied a quarter of a mile from the shore before being rescued. .Many hundreds ot [Ample lyero-o-n the beach and wfittlhed two men in a small dinghy, AY. VETERINARY REGULATIONS. WELLINGTON, January 21
The Department of Agriculture has drafted regulations for the administration of the Veterinary Surgeon’s Act passed last session, which provides for registration of veterinary surgeons. -MOTOR LORRY ACCIDENT. HASTINGS, Jan. 21
A motor lorry with food for the Post and Telegraph picnic yesterday met with an accident while negotiating a steep hill on the way to Waimarama Beach. The brakes failed to act just before a hairpin bend and the car went into the bank at the end with such force that it flung out the occupants and somersaulted 'twice, coming to rest on its wheels at a fence. Aliss Ray S.vmcs sustained a broken collar hone, Pat Hassett and Arthur Wardop (telegraph boys) broken leg and arm respectively and three others received minor injuries. FISH KR AIA X D ROWX ED. DARGAVILLE. January 2-1. Two men, Edward O’Neill, storekeeper. of Donnell’s crossing and Thomas Leigh, stationmnster, went on a fishing excursion at .Maunganui Bluff on Sunday. While fishing oft'the rocks a huge wave came up and washed both off. Leigh managed to struggle ashore hut his companion was not seen again. Tho body is unrecovered. Deceased was a married man of about, forty, with a wife and family of four young children, lie was particularly well known in this district, having filled a number of responsible positions. Tho Bluff is a particularly dangerous spot when the sea is rough for fishing. Several people have lost their lives there. COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE,. GREYMOUTH. Jan. 24.

The Pacific Gable steamer Iris returned on Sunday after repairs to the fault in the Australian-Tasniim cable 131 J. miles off T.owhead. Tie time taken to locate the broken ends and repair the cable was eleven working hours.
