A GALA TIME

Wednesday, February 16, is set down for a gain time in Hokitika, being the special date fixed for a benefit for All Saints’ Memorial Building Fund. In the afternoon Cass Square is to be the rendezvous, and it "ill he a veritable fine spot. There will he a varied programme in progress all the afternoon. including games, dances, racing. drill and competitions, -as well as sales of all kinds at the various stalls. Among the various competitions the decorated motor cars are going to be a special feature. There "'ill be other decorative items, and the whole should he a very brilliant display. The competition also for Miss and Master Westland will interest every mother, and the honour of winning this competition will he an outstanding one. Thero are teams of young girls now practising 0!d English country dances, and these items will he very effective. A special novelty will he the balloon ascents and races which are being arranged for. Goods of all descriptions including flowers, fruit, vegetables. etc., will be on sale, ihe Marions stalls being under separate management. Things useful and beautiful will be displayed laud all may lend a helping hand in nugunienting the funds by purchases which will have a home value. Afternoon tea and refreshments will he on sale and the Band will he in attendance. It should prove a great afternoon. At night at the Soldiers’ Hall there will he elocutionary and spelling hoe competitions, together with a vocal and intsrumeiitrJ! concert, the whole forming a remarkable entertainment. Entries close on the 12th prox., and sheets of fhe competition words have been widely distributed. The evening programme will be well varied and quite educfitionnl in its trend, and a crowded hall should result. The object of the day and night is to raise additional funds for All Saints’ Church Building Fund, and this coming event should bo of special value to that end, us the "hole programme will prove most attractive to the general public.
