THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES
Lkt Us J-Jki.i* China to Risk
“It is pathetic that two great peoples should be glowingly involved in mutual misunderstanding. Rather than compel by force, let us stay away if wo cannot tolerate the existing conditions, which are. alter all, hurting Chinese merchants more than ours. Above all. let us. by the removal of causes of friction, and every constructive friendly effort, endeavour to help China to rise and take her place in the family of nations. \\ hat of the future: - lie who would prophesy the outcome is a rash man. The great nation of China may not be reborn in a day. But there is the essential unity of her people in culture and aspiration; and as regards foreign relations, her age-long belief in the ideal of peace and willingness to seek by negotiation and give-and-take what violence cannot gain.”—Dr Clifford M. Stubbs, vice-principle of Clianglu University, in the “Sunday Express.”
