The entry of a rat on the stage nearly spoiled the second act ol the performance of the “The Fake’’ by the Maurice Moscovitcli Company in the Theatre Royal. Christchurch, on Saturday night. The little creature suddenly appeared at the side of the stage and was greeted by the audience with a pronounced titter, which grew louder as ll„, intruder seutCed to the back, where it disappeared. However it showed that it was not in the least affected by stage fright for it again made its entry and retraced its steps to the side of the stage, making a leisuretv exit, to the .accompaniment ot lurtlier suppressed laughter.
