DAMAGED CHURCH.

LONDON. Nov. 10. As lie was entering St. Faith’s i Church, Maidstone, Kent, this morning with his wife, Mr W. A. Wenli.im. ol King Kdward road. Maidstone, I heard a loud erasli, and a second later a piece of stone weighing lcwt, crashed on to his umbrella front one of the pinnacles 100 feet above and grazed his shoulder. The piece of stone was part of two of the pinnacles of the church, which fell just as the service was about to begin at'lo.3o a.m. One of the heavy stone crosses surmounting the pinnacles fell on to the rdbf of the church, tearing a large hole in it. Mr It. Doe, of King Edward road, saiil: “Mortar and stones fell over ter. of the pews, while the church, in which there were 300 people, was filled with dust.” The vicar, the Her. Douglas E Mor' ton, sairl: “Onlyj last July lightning struck these two pinnacles and 10 tons of masonry crashed to the ground. The workmen took 'away their scaffolding after carrying out the necessary repairs two days ago.”, .
