CRICKET.
[BY TELEOUAPH —PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.I LATE AUSTRALIAN TOUR. SYDNEY, Jan. 13. Speaking at a luncheon given by the Sydney Millions Club, Mr Sydney Smith, the manager of tthe Australian Cricket Eleven, said that one financial aspect of the English tour had not been published by the Board of Control. ! This was that the expenses of the hist tour were only seven pounds per Head above the IP2I expenses, notwithstanding the transport difficulties owing to the (oal strike. The tour had yielded £3OOO more in revenue than in 1921. I Air Smith also disclosed that he had i recommended tliai in future the Board of Control should make a fair allowance 10 each player, instead of a bonus, i inns relieving the players of their anxiety during the tour as to whether there was going to he a bonus or not. Discussing the howling, .Mr Smith said that Gi immott and Mailey between them took twenty-seven wickets out of thirty-nine in the tests, and 2G3 out of .111 on the tour. That burden on those two men showed an Australian weakness which lay in a dearth of spin howlers and length howlers with a little fire.
