Burglars entered a shop in Parnell on Tuesday night, and although they found the till empty, they removed some of tlk> stock. While there, they cooked a meal of bacon and eggs.

The intruders left a note for the shop-keeper stating that if no money was found in tho premises on the occasion of their next visit, tliey would “wreck tl— show.”

The raffling of a case of whisky at a Catholic ba/.:*ir at Mount Somers on October 16th resulted in ltev. Father Price being charged with soling liquor bv lottery. The defendant was not in court, but counsel pleaded guilty. Price was also charged with carrying liquor into t no-license area, this charge being deferred, pending tho hearing of the first, arising out of the same circumstances. Georue Michael Dealt charged with selling liquor in a no-liccnse area after its disposal by lottery, pleaded not guilty.

FINED £ls. ASHBURTON, January 14. Father Price was fined £ls on the first charge, the second being withdrawn. In regard to Doak’s ease, the police gave evidence that defendant admitted making a tarpaulin muster to purchase liquor from the winner, a lady who did not want it. The case was adjourned to allow the counsel to inquire into the noint whether Doak was not a party to the sale of the liquor by the winner.

CAR THIEVES

TE AAVAMUTU, January 14

Last evening Constable Gibberson arrested two young men in an Ajax car believed to have been stolen from Tinui, AYairarapa. On arrival at the police station one suspect, Gordon Brewer, ran away. After leaving the car cm the off side, the constable locked up Edgar Petterson and then went in search of Brewer with Constable Hooker. Heavy rain was falling and they were unable to find the man though they searched all night. 'Plus morning a report from Ohaupo indicated that an Essex ear had been removed during the night. It is believed Brewer took it. The police are watching all roads. Petterson was brought before the Court to -day and remanded to Hamilton ou-Afondav next.
