In the course of a brief statement, Mr Coates foreshadowed u gradual increase of New* Zealanders per capita contribution for defence, until the amount, lie said, “will compare favourably with that of the Mother Country.” Mr Coates described the New Zealand Navy as “a unit of the Imperial Navy,” rather than as a complete organisation in itself. He expressed his agreement with Air Bruce (Australian Premier) that the Dominion must share fully the cost of the Imperial defence, or else must “accept a position of national inferiority.” AIRS McPHEESOX.
