Tho death of Mrs Frank Cook, of Nelson .took place on Tuesday. Deceased, who was a daughter of Afr J. Codyre, for many years carpenter at the Grcyinouth Railway Workshops, was formerly resident in Greymouth. where Mr Cook was in business as a hairdresser and tobacconist. Deceased is survived by her husband and four children.
Tho death of Mr Neil Galbraith at the age of (it) is announced in a Press Association message from Dunedin. The deceased was manager for .John Mill and Co., and formerly manager of the New Zealand Shipping Co. He took a great interest in sport and was at one time chairman of committee and treasurer of the New Zealand Rugby I'nion. lie was also manager of the All Blacks in Australia in 1905 and conducted Siovewright’s English team throughout New Zealand. He was prominently connected with rowing at Wellington and Lyttelton. The deceased was married with throe of a family. He died in his sleep.
A bluejacket named William Smallwood, leading telegraphist aboard the wvrship Dunedin, stood to attention in the dock at the Maistrnte’s Court at Auckland yesterday, on a charge of stealing a. parcel of clothing vnilued at £1 14s Gd. Smallwood pleaded not guilty, and after evidence had boon beard ,incensed, who was wearing two good conduct stripes, took advantage of the opportunity given by the Magistrate to call evidence of character. The Dunedin’s Lieutenant-Commander went into the box and vouched for Smallwood’s truthfulness. Mr Hunt. S.M.. remarked that already lie had intended to give Smahwood the benefit of the doubt, though he would not believe tho story,he told from the average man about towh. “Thank your, sir." said Smallwood crisply, as he wheeled round and left the dock.

Tbo death took place at Donniston on Tuesday of .Mr Fugene Virtue, aged 57, a native of Hokitika, but a resident of Westport for over fifty years. Deceased was a carpenter by trade and in bis earlier days was a prominent footballer.
