WESTLAND HOSPITAL BOARD

MONDAY, JAN. 10.

The- Board met at 8.15 p.m. Picsent—Messrs J. J. Breeze (Chairman), K. A. Wells, Cl. Davidson, AV. Jeffries, R. Meliarry aijd A. B. Spiers. Apologies were mado for the absence of Alessrs Keenan and Morel. MOTION OF SYMPATHY. The Chairman moved a vote of sympathy and condolence he passed in connection with the death of their fellow member, Mr Cl. IT. Blank, and that a letter of sympathy be conveyed to Mrs Blank.—Seconded by by Air Wells and carried in silence, members standing.' MINUTES. The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. INWARD C OimESTONDF.NCF.. •The Chairman reported that with Air Davidson they had waited on Dr A nlintine who made an official visit of inspection to AVcstlnnd Hospital. Later in the evening with Afr Jeffries they had a general discussion on hospital matters. Dr A T alintine had promised a subsidy of £250 towards clearing the remaining portion of uncleared ground at the hospital. Air Jeffries said it was as well to announce that the Board proposed to spend £SOO in preparing the remaining ground at the institution and this would he the last substantial amount on capital expenditure. The money so far spent has been spent to the very best ail vantage.

Air Davidson said the policy was one of nrogressive utility, ami the proposal was a wise one. The ground was showing to advantage and the crop of oats at present there was a very fine one and hard to equal. Afr Aleharrv endorsed the splendid results so fnr‘obtained from the ground icccntly broken out. The ronort was received.

From Dr A’alintine, Director-Gen-eral stating the Hokitika Borough would he entitled to another member on the Board at the next election.— Received.

From Hospitals Department in rcforciH'O to enforcement of maintenance accounts from Maori patients.—• Received. ,

From Hospital Boards’ Association notifying Annual Conference in March and enclosing agenda paper.—Received; consideration deferred till .next meeting.

From Hospitals Department forwarding report of Dr Blackmore on sanitorium.—Deceived ; suggestions to he supported at the Conference.

From S. Bassett (Wild and Bassett) reporting on stretchers for South Westland, and recommending one with suggested improvements.—ReocivelT and report adopted. It was resolved to procure a stretcher, prices to ho obtained and town members to deal with same.' A vote of thanks was passed to Messrs Bassett and E'vans for their

report. From Nurse Scott. Wa.iho. ill. reference to use of Wailio bridge. —Received ; Secretary’s report was approved. From D. J. 'Evans, in reference to an application for assistance.-—" Received ; no action taken. A number of other letters dealing with maintenance accounts were received and dealt with. TENDERS FOR MEAT. Tenders were received for the supply of meat for Westland Hospital from Andrews Bros. £428 8s Old. W. Berry and Son £540 Ids Bjd. Johnson and WMolhuuso ,Cf> 1,1 Ids 7d. The tender of Andrews Bros, was accepted. From Surgeon Superintendent reporting patients in hospital on list. December totalled 23 males, 14 females males, 13 females—2o. Total treated during month, 10 males, 27 females—

fid. Discharged cured, 17 males, 8 females. relieved 2 females, died 2 males; total discharged, 10 males, 4 0 females—--20. Remaining in hospital on list. December. 20 males, 17 females—37.

• a hospital for two months, 10 males. 7 females—l 7. Received. The House Committee reported that conditions at the hospital were satisfactory, stating Mr R. McKenzie, who had acted as doorkeeper had died during the month and suggesting that the doorkeepers services he clone away with and printed notices bo put up in connection with visiting days.—Received and adopted.

Mr Davidson reported having visited the Nurses Cottage at Wailio. The second growth in the grounds required cutting down, and burning and it was advisable that the telephone be connected with the party line instead of connection through the bureau at Wailio.—Received and adopted. Accounts amounting to £402 13s 9d were passed for payment.

Mr Davidson moved that in future no entertainments in aid of the Westland Hospital he held unless the consent of the Board he given to the proposal.—Seconded by Mr Wells and carried. It was resolved further that the Secretary of a recent entertainment 1 e written to and asked for a balance sheet to be submitted forthwith.

The Treasurer reported receipts £9OO Is lOd, payments £920 8s 2d. tiein. balance £9] lSs 4d.—Received. The next meeting was fixed for February 14 th.

The Board rose at 9.30 p.m
