r „ LONDON. Jan. 8. Ihe New Zealand Rugby League team defeated Cumberland by eighteen points td three. The match was played at Workington, in cold, wet eather, before three thouslind spectators. The New Zealand teijni was: Kii’wan. Brown, Davidson,X’ole, Desmond, Brisbane. A\ ilson-Hall, Alenzies, Thomas, Herring, Gardiner, Mason and Avery Cumberland, in tho first half, played "lth a strong wind behind them, but they were only dangerous with their forward rushes. The New Zealanders first mastered these forward rushes, and then they assumed a superiority. It mattered little if they were beaten in the scrums. They passed thy ball on every opportunity. The quickness of their attacks bewildered Cumberland who wero penalised during a hot attack, Gardiner kicking a goal. Soon after A\ ilson-Hall. with a fine burst of speed scored a try. which Gardiner converted. Some excellent passing resulted in Davidson getting the next try and Gardiner again converted. Gardiner himself scored the next try on which lie failed to improve with the kick. Tl*o visitors in the second half wc-re less conspicuous, though they had the advantage of the wind.. Desmond scored their oirly try in this spell, and Thornburton scored a try for Cumberland. OTTAWA, January 8. The New Zealand League football team arrives in CLnada on January 15. The team will visit the frozen Niagara Falls and also will spend the two days resting .amid the snow peaks of the Rockies, before sailing on the 29th from Vancouver;, aboard the Tahiti for New Zealand.
