Financial circles in Chicago are discussing the likelihood ol Australia floating a large loan in the United States. It is rumoured in one quarter that Mr. Brute, the Australian Premier, is conferring with the ,1. P. Morgan Company. It is estimated that the anticipated loan will ho from ft!.000,()()<) to £lO,000. OTTAWA, Jan. 8. Although only spending twelve hours in Winnipeg, the Australian Premier, Mr S. Bruce, delivered speeches before the local Canadian Club, inspected the grain elevators, and informally discussed the agricultural problem with members of the Government, llis addresses stressed the importance of the part which agriculture has played in the national greatness of Canada and Australia, but lie pointed out that “ man cannot live by bread alone.” He indicated the responsibilities of nationhood, and outlined what Australia was doing to fulfil its responsibilities. particularly as concerned defence.
Mr Bruce and party were guests of honour at a private dinner at Government Mouse this evening. They they left immediately for Vancouver. There will be no further stops till they arrive there.

A Vancouver message says that the wholesale butter agents state that the price of butter will drop two cents per pound on Monday under competitive pressure, following on the arrival of sixteen thousand boxes of New Zealand butter by tbo liner Niagara. The new retail prices will lie forty-four cents for cartons.
