HUMAN LIFE
ARTICLE BY H. G. AVELLS,
[Australian ifc N.Z. Cable Association ) (Received this day at S a.m.) LONDON, Jan. 9. Tho enterprise of the “Sunday Express” secured a series of articles by H. G. Wells. The first emphasis that mankind is. in an intense phase of transition and consists of the argument that human nature never alters. It fastens on insurance statistics showing the extension of life has increased since the opening of tho century by twelve years. This is only the llatest step in changes progressing during a much longer period. Examining vitiil for tho century past, Wells Argues that man has been almost as sexual as a cat, witli its ever recurring liittens. A man has been tho family animal and is now beginning to breed much later and conerved his offspring, and thus./-'render available an unprecedented 1 amount of individual time , and energy. In the near future man will not work till ho is an adult and will m'arry much later and have a small successful family, then live a score of years or moro beforo ho exhibits any of the characteristic decadents of age. Tho oculist, dentist and surgeon will perform tho necessary roadsido repairs. AVells affirms that adult vigour can be restored and can be kept up until at least tho end of life. It’s prolongation will not he allowed to remain the privilege of a small class. There will be only active, hopeful children and though' nj.rny people will be full of years, none will be aged. It will be a community of grown up people to the extent quite beyond our present community.
