BOWLING.
NELSON CENTRE TOURNAMENT. THE FINALS. (Nelson “Evening Mail,’’ of .Tail. sth.) The finals—full rinks and pairs—of the Nelson Centre bowling tournament were played in the Nelson Club’s green yesterday afternoon under ideal weather conditions and in the presence of a large crowd of spectators. The full rinks game between teams skipped by Hayward (Hokitika) and Bartlett (Nelson) was responsible for a splendid exhibition by the visitors, who won rather easily. As the president of the Nelson Centre (7\lr Riper) remarked when presenting the prizes, the Hokitika tuiin gave one of the best, displays ever seen on a local green. The skip and the No. 3 (Stevenson) were particularly good, drawing with remarkable accuracy; while the other two members of tile rink were also in great form. Bartlett's rink was a strong one. but was lighting for points all the time and never looked like winning. Hokitika started well, the hoard showing 15 points against 1 on the Bth head. Nelson then won the next four heads, scoring 3,2. 2. and 3. and one oil the Toth; and thereafter failed to score. The filial figures were 28 to 12 in favour of Hokitika. The rinks were : Hokitika : Thompson. Wilson, Stevenson. Hayward (s) ; Nelson; Allen. Wilding, Harkness. Bartlett (s). PAIRS FINAL.
The pairs final was played between A. Deo and W. Dee (s) of the Nelson Club, and McComish and Dunpliy (s). of the Mait.ai Club. It is worthy of note the finalists are members of the full rink which is competing at the New Zealand tournament at Auckland next week. The game was an interesting one. from the fact that Dunpliy, after (appearing to be in a hopeless position on the 13th head (when Dee was T 9 to 9) recovered so well that lie was onlv one or two points behind on the 19th head. Dee. however, won on the last two heads, running out winners by 24 to li. , The winners and runners-up ot botn games were heartily cheered at the conclusion of the games. 'ldio win of the Hokitika rmk was ,i verv popular one. and they received maiiv congratulations on their wellmerited victory. At the electric light tournament in the evening the winning rink was skipped by Stevenson; and on the Maitai green this week Hayward also skipped the winning rink in a similar tournament. ELECTRIC LIGHT TOURNAMENI. Several full rinks took part in .an electric light tournament on the Nelson rrreen 'last evening. The ’.milling rink comprised Adams.
