The funding of the war debt to Britain lias caused the greatest enthusiasm. Officers of Braga Garrison offer a contribution of a pound sterling, and secondary school teachers have opened a national subscription supported by newspapers, as a war memorial to liquidate the debt by March 31st. FEDERAL FINANCE. MELBOURNE, Jan. 5.
The estimated customs revenue for the first six: months of the financial year was twenty-one millions sterling whereas actually the revenue received was £22,139.653. The treasurer estimates receipts for the year will amount to forty-five millions. December rcceints amounted to £3.887.227, being eighty thousand in excess of any other month’s receipts since the establishment of the Commonwealth.
