HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT. WELLINGTON, Dec. 31. The Department of Agriculture has received the fd lowing cablegram, dated December 24, U>2f3. from tbe High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:— BUTTER. - The market is quiet. New Zealand—Finest salted (new season’s). 170 s to 172 s per cwt (Is G',d to Is 6sd per lb) ; other qualities, 160 s to 104 s per cwt (Is del to Is old per lb). Finest stored, IGOs to 164 a per cwt (Is 5d to Is old per lb) ; other qualities, lots to 138 s per cwt (Is 4.3 d to Is 4jd per lb). New Zealand Control Board official minimum prices are: Finest, 172 s per cwt (Is 6)d per lb); first grade. 1.70 s per cwt (Is Gfd per lb). Australian—Salted, 164 s to 170 s per cwt (Is did to Is Old per bl) ; unsalted, 168 sto 172 s per cwt (Is 6d to 4s G.Vd per lb) ; other qualities. 140 s to 162 s per cwt (Is 3d to Is 5.1 d per lb). Canadian—lo4s to Kids per cwt (Is did per lb) ; other qualties, IGOs to 102 s per cwt (Is dd to Is 5Jd per lb). Argentine—(lnsulted, 104 sto IGOs per cwt (Is 43d to Is dd per /.b) ; other qualities, 136 s to 102 s per cwt (Is 21d to Is 4}d per lb). Danish—l7Bs to 182 s per cwt (Is 7<J to Is 7}d per lb). CHEESE.
The Canadian market is steady. New Zealand is slow. Official quotations are: — English—Finest farmers’. 108 s to 112 s per cwt (ll jd to Is per lb). Canadian —Finest coloured, 94s to 90s per cwt (lOd to lOfd per lb); exceptional. 98s per cwt (10.3 d per lb) ; white, 94s to 98s per cwt (lOd to 103 d per lib). New Zealand—New Zealand coloured and white. 90s to 90s per cwt (10d to 10Jd per lb). The Control Board’s minimum prices are: Finest. 96s per cwt (10,'d per ll>) ; first grade, fids per cwt (10d per lb) ; Australian coloured, 93s per cwt (93d per lb); Australian white, fids per cwt (10d per lb). TALLOW. The market is quiet but steady. Better prices are expected. There will be no auction this week owing to the Christmas holidays. ‘EGGS.
Prices are lower, but very little business is being done. Present quotations are:—English. Dutch. Danish. 24s to 27s per long 100; Belgian. 20s to 22s per long 100: Australian. IBs to 18s 6d per long 100; Argentine. Ids to 16s per long 100; Polish. Chinese. Egyptian, 9s Gd to 13s 6d per long 100. HEMP. The Manila market is dvdl but firm. “J” grade afloat sold at £4B ids pe l ton. Xovember-Jauuary shipments are quoted at £4B per ton. Sisal, quiet and easier. Nominal value Tanganyika and Kenya No. 1. £4l Exposition of New Zealand quiet, with highpoint nominally Ids per ton cheaper: fair. £36 per ton ; common, £33 us. December-Fehruaiy shipments parcels 10s above these figures. Stocks of New Zealand hemp in London on Nobember 30 were 11 toffs as against 98 tons at the same time hist year. TOW.
The market is slow on the basis of £26 10s per ton for No. 2.
