Disgraceful scenes attended the conclusion of play. A section of the spectators who were verbally hostile for the most part of the game, disputed manv of the referee’s decisions, and invaded the ground, menacing the referee, who was the ex-Scottish international skipper, R. Scott. Ihe latter eventually escaped hv the back dooi of the stadium under police protection. It- remains to he seen whether the Irish will make a formal protest, and whether they will ret use to play France henceforward. Crawford, the Irish capbiiu. said that he would not make any official report. Tho French cities and the team agree that Scott carried out his duties as referee in an unexceptional manner. MAORIS DEFEATED. LONDON, Jan. 1. Pontvpool heat the Maoris by six to five. NZ. LEAGUERS LOSE. LONDON. Jan. 2. The Hull-Kingston team defeated tbe New Zealand League football team by 20 to 15.
