[Australia & N.Z. Cable Association.] DEATH SENTENCE COMMUTED. SYDNEY, Sept. 28. The State Cabinet commuted the death sentence passed on Alaurice Strymans to imprisonment for life, for the shooting of a woman in ti flat, to which the prisoner (a sea captain) confessed, stating the woman implored him to shoot her, and handed him a revolver, which went off when the woman lurched towards him. X.S.AV. LABOUR- SPLIT. SYDNEY, Sept. 28. Rumours of further disruption in the Labour Party over the 'alleged bribery charges, lend additional interest, to the want of confidence motion, to ho moved by Air Bavin to-day. The new trouble is the outcome of a cmicus decision to set up a Parliamentary inquiry, in opposition to the Premier’s desire for a Royal Commission. A crisis is predicted in some quarters. SYDNEY AYATERSIDERS. SYDNEY, Sept. 28. The State Industrial Commissioner Air Paddington, has granted reregistration, under the New South Wales Arbitration Act, to the Sydney Branch of the AVaterside AVorkers Federation of Australia. RAHWAY TRAGEDY CHARGE. MELBOURNE, Sept. 28. William Alilvain and Janies Hargreaves, driver and guard respectively of the train in the Caulfield smash on May 26th, were to-day acquitted on charges of manslaughter.
