GREY JOCKEY CLUB
The annual meeting of the Grey Jockey Club was held on Friday afternoon. tlie president, Air T. E. Coates, presiding. There were no new nominations for election, and the following officers were re-elected for the ensuing term President, Air T. E. Coates; committee, Messrs 11. F. Dopgan. J. AA 7 . Hanan, A. Smith, A. Behan. H. J.Bigliell, J. D. AYinghnm, AY. 11. Parfitt, AV. R. Kettle. H. D. James, K. AA’illiaui.-, 11. G. Marker aiid AA'. K. Reynolds; auditor, Mr F. M. Kilgour. The president referred to tlie loss sustained by the club in the death of tlie oldest member, AL- Adam Blair, and it was resolved that a letter of condolence be sent to the relatives. Mr Seddon suggested an alteration iii lhe position of the totalisator. . He had heard several visitors complain of being unable to see the figures, and lie thought some alterations should be considered. Mr Thorny recommended the inclusion of two trots each clay on the programme. The financial position of the club warranted this innovation, which, said Air Tliorpy, would stimulate the interest of visitors and trotting owners. many of whom were not interested m racing events. The introduction of trotting events would also attract larger attendances. Referring to complimentary tickets, Air Thorpy considered that too many tickets were issued. He contended that with the wages women were now receiving they could easily afford to pay admission to tho races. The president, in submitting the annual report, stated that the receipts for the year showed a considerable fall-ing-off. The gate receipts were £364 and the totalisator revenue £1316 less than last year. - This state of affairs was due in no small measure to the Dunedin Exhibition attracting so many of the club’s patrons away from the Coast. The club’s property had been kept in a good state of repair. In this connexion over £4OO had been spent in improvements. He felt confident that the present season would bo more successful. The recommendations submitted by members, said tlie president, won hi lie iiolcd by the incoming committee. It was resolved, on tlie motion of the president, that a vote of thanks lie accorded Ai r Doogan for his good work in compiling the new set of rules for the club.
