— LIBERALS TAKE OFFICE. [Australian & N.Z. Cable Association.] OTTAWA, Sept. 25. The Meighen Government resigne to-day, and Mr Mackenzie King was immediately summoned to Government House. , Mr Meighen has announced that lie does not intend to contest a seat in Parliament, and that he will retire from the leadership of the Conservative Party at a conference of members on October lltli. Later in the day Mr Mackenzie King was sworn in as Prime Minister and Minister of External Affairs. There ,are no outstanding changes from the personnel of his previous Cabinet. Mr Bobb is resuming the Finance portfolio, and the Customs Department, which the Conservatives strenuously attacked during the campaign for alleged maladministration, will be presided over by Mr AY. D. Euler. Air Afeighen announced that every facility would he afforded the Canadian representatives to attend the Imperial Conference., and if Parliament reassembled. assistance would lie given by the Opposition for the prompt dispatch of business. Afr Mackenzie King officially stated to-day that lie would attend the Imperial Conference, accompanied by Air Lapointe, Alinister of Justice, and possibly by other Ministers. Parliament was likely to meet in the first week in December. Air Eorke, a former leader of: the Progressives, assumes the portfolio of Immigration and Colonisation. He was elected as a joint Liberal-Pro-gressive candidate. Air Vincent Alasse.v, .former president of the Alassey-Harris Company, has been chosen as Canada's first Alinister Plenipotentiary to Washington, but the Prime Alinister announced today that a definite appointment would be held in abeyance until lie lias the opportunity to discuss the matter with the Imperial Government when attending the. Imperial Conference. With the alterations made, as mentioned above, the principal members of the Cabinet will be: Prime Alinister and External Affairs—Air Mackenzie King. Finance —Air J .A. Robb. National Defence—Air E. M. Alacdonald. Postmaster-General—Air C. Aiurphy. Justice and Attorney-General—Air E. Lapointe. Customs and Excise—Air WV. I). Euler. Marine and Fisheries—Air P. J. A. Cardin. Trade and Commerce—Air P. A. Low Railways a'nd Canals—Air G. P. Graham. Agriculture—Air AY. It. Motherwell. Labour—Air J. C. Elliott. Immigration and Colonisation—Mr Forke.
