A conference of .Maritime Unions convened hy Trades Hall Council met to consider the position caused by the hold-up of several inter-State steamers. Several delegates, particularly stewards severely criticised the policy of seamen iu participating in disputes without consulting other unions concerned. Tho Seamen’s delegates contended the delay in this instance was caused by tho ship owners' refusing to employ men with bad discharges. The conference withheld judgment pending a conference with the Shipowners Association who were asked to meet the delegates of Maritime Unions to-day. NEW BISHOP APPOINTED. SYDNEY, Sept. 21.
