In the match against Leigh, the New Zealand League team in all scored five tries and lour goals, to the Englishmen’s four tries and two goals. There was an excellent attendance ol twelve thousand, but a strong wind was. blowing which greatly interfered with the play. The visitors had this behind them in the first half and with its help gained a lead of seventeen to nil. Making most of the advantage thus derived. New Zealand pressed their opponents strongly and severely taxed their defence. Dufty opened the scoring with a magnificent goal dropped beyond half wav. Gardiner followed up by crowning two excellent

pieces of concerted play with scores in the corner, from both of which Dufty kicked goals nt a very difficult angle. AVitli only one minute to go Carroll crossed the line under the posts and again Dufty finished off with a goal.

Oil resuming. Brown put in a wonderful run of seventy yards and then passed to Davidson, who topped the effort with an easy try. After this, Leigh, who now had the wind to assist them, put in their effort. They attacked vigorously and pressed the visitors strongly for two-thirds of the remainder of the game. Blackburn, Clarkson. Osborne and M.vers in turn got over, the last scoring .after a prolonged struggle on the goal line and determined defence by the New Zealanders. From these scores Clarkson and Moss kicked the only goals that Leigh obtained. The visitors, however,

were not done with, for just as time was about to be called. Herring put in a powerful run and added another try to the New Zealand total. No goal was kicked and the result left the visitors with, victory by a comfortable lead.

LEAGUE PLAYERS’ FINANCE. AUCKAND. Sept. 17. Tn a letter to the Premier, the Secretary of the Rugby League Council correcting Air Coates’ statement that players now in England are receiving 90s per week, plus out of pocket expenses, states players when on tour are supplied with out of pocket, expenses at the rate of 10s per day. Sundays excluded. No other allowances are being made them. League players resented very much the statement by Mr Campbell ALP- that League footballers in Now Zealanders were professionals.
