(From a Correspondent)

The fourth euchre party was held in the Okarito Hall on September 2nd., where 40 players were engaged in the contest, visitors coming from North and South Waiho. Amongst those present wore Mrs D. Wallace and her friend Miss Whalen, both from Still- y water, and who arc kindly donating tho prizes for the next euchre party which is to take place shortly. The winner of the ladies’ prize was Mrs R. Graham, of Waiho, and the gent’s prize was won by Mr Forbes Pamment, of Newmans Motors. Afterwards an excellent supper was partaken of, and dancing was carried out till the early hours, music being supplied by Miss J. Donovan and Mr Caslcy. of Waiho, carried out tho duties of M.G. \ Mr W. .Jeffries (County Chnirifiar. - accompanied by Mr Millner (County Overseer) visited hero last week, and was met hy the residents. We hear negotiations are being made for a lorry to Transport the silver pi no ■ poles to the wharf for shipment. These poles have been lying along the Okarito road for a considerable time. The weather tho last few days has been boisterous and stormy, causing a heavy sea that may prove of benefit to the beach combers, but no good for the white-bait chasers.
