THE DIXIE HANDICAP ” —TO-NIGHT.

Lloyd Hughes has recently leapt right into the front rank of film favourites and he appears in “ The Dixie {Handicap,” Reginald Braker’s big Aletro-Goldwy u production winch conics to the Princess Theatre to-night. Coleatured with him in this new picture are Claire Windsor and Frank Keenan. T ; 'c film is an adaptation of a Gerald Beaumont magazine story. "Dixie,” a swift-moving story of the Kentucky race tracks, with plenty of fun, action and pathos to make it a real fine piece of entertainment. When Fpinnrd. the french champion racer, was defeated by a local crack flyer at Latonia, Kentucky. the interest in the event was world-wide. It was some weeks prior to the big event that the director commenced filming Gerald Beaumont’s magazine story, “ Dixie,” and wihen he saw the world’s interest to Latonia. he decided not to miss such an opportunity for realism. A camera unit in charge ol an nsistant director was sent from Culver City to Latonia.. where special facilities were granted it to enable good pictures to ho secured. The race was filmed from start to finish and. with the addition of n few special shots of the horse featured in the picture, it comprised the big climax sequence. The picture tells of an impoverished judge forced to sell practically all his possessions except a favourite mare to bring his daughter up in luxury and in ignorance of the real state of her father’s finance. The mare loses her life in defending her colt from death, and the colt eventually wins the Dixie Handicap and brings the return of prosperity. Tlie serial and a comedy will also he shown. Coming Afonday and Tuesday, Sept. 20!!i and 21st.: "The White Sister.”
