Rhodes announced that in the recess, the head of the Government accident insurance office is to visit Canada to investigate Occident insurance schemes in operation there, with a view to evolving a similar scheme for New Zealand. Pensions Bill, Rural Credits Bill, Bank of New Zealand Bill and Westport Harbour Amendment Bill were received from the House and read )a firsttime. The Council adourned at -1.30 p.m. until 8 p.m. At the evening sitting the Council put through their final stages, practically without discussion Rural Advances Bill. Pensions Bill. Westport Harbour Amendment Bill, Education Amendment Bill and Bank of New Zealand Bill, .all without amendment. Tlie Council adjourned at 9.25 p.m. THE HOUSE. The House met at 2.30 p.m. In the House the Swamp Drainage Amendment Bill was put through all stages and passed. Motor Omnibus Traffic Bill was read a second time. Final amendments to the “Washing Up” Bill were brought down by the Governor-General’s message and the House rose at 1.10 a.m. till 2.30 p.m.
