The Kawarau scheme gauge at Queenstown was still below the 4 foot 4 inches mark this morning, so that the rise since the gates were closed is still something less than an inch. No claim holder is attempting to sec how gold can be won at present. Tlio object in every ease is to gain necessary information about- claims for future use. An Otago Daily Times reporter was shown tlire© nice little nuggets found yesterday on Claim 86, of a total weight of 3or 4 dwts. They were ivor th only about £l, but they are of value as indicating the presence of good gold in the vinicity. NICE GOLD FOUND. DUNEDIN, Sept. 1. Regarding Kawarau dam, a report from Cromwell to-night states that the Rliotovcr has backed the Kauai an up some nine inches. Prospecting on the Natural Bridge Claim, the workers secured with a dish two and a half ounces. The largest piece weighed six dwts. flood samples amounting to threequarters of an ounce, are reported at several other claims. One from the Lower Consolidated was got out of crevice. Another of three quarters of mi mince was got out of the “Golden Bed.” _ The A'ogel’s Vision Coy. are putting through likely looking wash. It is stated by a competent- miner Unit no virgin ground lias yet been uncovered bv the damming of the lake, and that a lot of deep overburden exists. AN EARLY SLUMP. Kawarau stares have dropped heavily on the Stock Exchange, sales being made nt'2s 3d. 2s 4d and 2s yd.
