HOSPITAL BALL.

The Annual Hospital Ball took place in the Drill Hall last evening and was an undoubted success. There was an attendance of about four hundred, the floor being crowded throughout the night. The line night assisted and there was a good sprinkling of country visitors. The hall had been very tastefully decorated with flags, greenery. coloured paper festoons and mirrors. and bad a very attractive appearance, the work of the decorative Committee being generally admired. The floor had received special attention and this feature was a distinct success, it being in capital order for dancing. Tiie music was supplied by Mr C. Boss and bis orchestra, and was of the usual high quality, a number of extras being supplied at the supper adjournment. There were a good many fancy costumes, which were of an attractive nature and made an imposing array in the costume march prior to the judging for the special prizes, which were awarded as follows:—Best fancy costume by lady, “Early Victorian Posy.” Miss Speed; Shepherdess. Miss M. Halliday, highly commended. Most original costume. “Mephistncles.” Miss M. King. Best gentleman’s costume. “Homan Soldier,” Mr W. Kinlocli; most original costume. “ Convict 99,” Mr E. Christiansen; special prize, “ pneumatic tyres,” Mr IV. Harrington.

The floor was in charge of Mr H. Thompson, assisted by Messrs .]. J. Breeze and Id. Davidson, and dancing was kept merrily going till about two o’clock.

Supper was served in the Town Hall in several relays and here the ladies’ committee had provided a plentiful supply of dainties which were fully appreciated, a large number of ladies being busily engaged for a considerable time attending to the wants of the happy throng. JUVENILE B A I.L—TO-NTGHT. To-night, commencing at 8 o’clock sharp, a fancy dress juvenile hall will be held to wind up the benefit. There will be a large number of fancy costumes. great interst being taken by the younger people and their parents and the hall should again have a very attractive appearance.
