Franklin, famous producer oi a. .series of “dog” pieturesj iufroduces a new canine star in AletroGoldwyn’s “The Silent Accuser.” lie is Peter the Great, a tine police dog, and a, remarkably capable actor. The picture, which conies to the Princess Theatre to-night, features Eleanor Hoard man ami ltaymond .McKee. Despite the presenco of ;t. strong cast, Peter dominates every scene and toils the story logically and clearly. Guided wholly by his instinct, which the director has played upon cleverly, the dog portrays his role with convincing sincerity and with poise worthy of a screen veteran. It is a revelation of animal intelligence. Jack Hoyle, noted sliort-storv writer, provided the exciting plot. The story in brief.—On the night Jack Tars.int and Barbara plan to elope, Phil. Vane quarrels with the girl’s grandfather and kills him. The murder is witnessed by Jack’s police dog, Peter, which is stunned by Phil when he escapes. .Jack is found bending over the body and is charged and convicted of the crime. Aided by Barbara and Peter, Jack escapes from gaol, and the three track Phi! across the border. The dog is first to reach the slayer, and lie attacks his enemy. Jack refuses to call the dog off until I’liil confesses, which he does in the hearing of police officers who have como I'm- Jack, Phil is arrested and Jack is sot free. Braver than a lion—• as sagacious as a man, ‘‘Peter the Great” dog wonder of the screen. Ilis master was convicted of murder—the law was satisfied—lmt not Peter! So he got busy. And that's when you see the greatest “dog” story ever filmed, and a canine sleuth who beats the law at its own game. A good supporting programme will also he shown.
