Motorists using the railway between Springfield and Otira for the transport of their care between those two railway stations have in the past been provided with trucks opening at the sides. As a result they have experienced considerable difficulty in loading their cars on such trucks. _ The Canterbury Automobile Association took the matter up with the Railway Department, suggesting that the trucks used should be of a type that would enable cars to be run directly on to them from the end, pointing out that the adoption of such a proposal would save much time and inconvenience both to the Department s staff and the motorists concerned. The Department agreed to carry out the i reform asked and has now erected a loading bank at each of the stations mentioned, by means of which cars may be driven on to the trucks without the slightest inconvenience.
