SYDNEY, Aug. 27. The Medical! Convention continued tho discussion of the question of the establishment of a. college of surgeons. The site of a permanent home for the college will not be fixed until benefactions have reinforced the college’s endeavours. At first the college will operate in Victoria. Its permanent headquarters will be established later at Canberra. Doctors Gordon Craig, of Sydney and Herbert, of Wellington, are acting as New Zealand’s representatives on the convention. Sir George
Sime of Victoria; will probably be the first president of the college. BRISBANE, Aug. 27. Efforts to refloat tho steamer Cooma proved unsuccessful, owing to bad weather. Iu opening tho defence at Kalgoorlic, in the murder trial, Haynes representing the accused said both the deceased Walsh and Pitman were shot hy Treffene, and that Courlter was not there when they were shot. He. would produce evidence to hear this out, also that tho deceased were shot under circumstances which would entitle Treffene to acquittal.
